In respect to the color quality of a laptop screen, your focus should be on OLED, IPS, and Wide Gamut. If you want your screen to appear vibrant, then you should choose a panel that can output the highest number of colors. This is because the more colors a panel can output when in use, the more vibrant the screen of your laptop will appear.

What to do when you do not know the screen’s gamut coverage

In case you do not know the gamut coverage of a laptop screen, you should check if the laptop is labeled as an OLED or IPS display. Laptop screens of better quality use in-plane switching (IPS) technology, which is known to offer more vibrant and better viewing angles than standard twisting nematic (TN) panels. The manufacturer should disclose that the screen is IPS. If they don’t indicate this, then you should simply assume they are not IPS.

A screen that uses Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) technology is the most colorful type of laptop screen you can use. Even though the traditional laptop screens usually have a backlight, which illuminates all the pixels, with Organic Light Emitting Diode every pixel lights itself. This actually means that blacks are completely black and colors are truer.
